a vibrant french picnic for Ellie + lillie

SEWANEE, TENNESSEE in May of 2025

Set against the sweeping overlook of Sewanee, Lillie and Ellie’s day unfolded like a living painting—soft light, layered color, and a sense of intimacy that never tried too hard. The ceremony portraits capture that quiet tenderness first: Ellie leaning into Lillie, eyes closed, bouquets spilling with movement and color. The florals weren’t just arrangements—they felt wild and gathered, like something you’d find growing naturally along the bluff, only brighter, more joyful, more them.

That same feeling carried into the reception, where the design shifted into something playful and transportive—a French picnic reimagined. The tables were a study in texture and restraint: woven chargers, delicate glassware, soft linens, and airy arrangements that felt almost weightless. Nothing was overdone, but every detail mattered. It was the kind of table that invites you to linger, to pour another glass of wine, to stay a little longer than planned.

And then—just when the evening had settled into that relaxed, golden-hour rhythm—came the moment that changed everything.

Because Ellie is from New Orleans, Lillie’s family planned a surprise that was both deeply personal and undeniably celebratory: a second line band. What began as a beautifully composed evening suddenly burst into movement and sound. Guests didn’t just watch—they joined. Napkins waving, feet moving, the entire energy of the wedding shifting from quiet romance to full, unfiltered joy.

It wasn’t just entertainment—it was a gift. A gesture that honored Ellie’s roots, wrapped in celebration, and given in front of everyone she loves.

That contrast—soft and vibrant, composed and spontaneous—is what makes this wedding so memorable. It never chose between elegance and personality. It held both.

A refined, design-forward day that still made room for surprise.
A quiet mountain setting that gave way to a New Orleans parade.
A wedding that, at its core, felt exactly like Lillie and Ellie.
