Composed in Color:
A Modern, Matisse-Inspired Wedding
Set against the sweeping overlook of beautiful, rolling hills, Lillie and Ellie’s day unfolded like a living painting—soft light, layered color, and a sense of intimacy that never tried too hard. The ceremony portraits capture that quiet tenderness first: Ellie leaning into Lillie, eyes closed, bouquets spilling with movement and color. The florals weren’t just arrangements—they felt wild and gathered, like something you’d find growing naturally along the bluff—only brighter, more expressive, and full of life.
Design was at the heart of the entire weekend, beginning with the wedding party. Instead of traditional attire, they were given direction rather than uniformity—invited to dress in looks inspired by the paintings of Henri Matisse. The result was a collective palette of color, shape, and movement: bold yet soft, curated yet individual. Like brushstrokes across a canvas, each person contributed something distinct, but together they created a cohesive, artful composition that felt both modern and timeless.
That same sensibility carried into the reception, where the design shifted into something playful and transportive—a French picnic reimagined through a refined lens. The tables were a study in texture and balance: woven chargers grounding the place settings, delicate glassware catching the light, and soft linens creating an understated foundation for the florals to shine. Arrangements felt airy and sculptural, filled with seasonal blooms in unexpected color pairings—coral, butter yellow, soft pink, and fresh greens—echoing the painterly inspiration woven throughout the day.
Nothing felt overly styled, yet every detail was considered. The interplay between structure and spontaneity—between curated design and organic beauty—created a setting that invited guests to settle in, to notice, to experience.
It was a wedding that didn’t rely on tradition to feel elevated. Instead, it drew from art, nature, and personal expression—resulting in a celebration that was as visually compelling as it was deeply felt.
